Elaine Martel-Rowe Unique ART

Picture
Paintings by Elaine Martel-Rowe.

Elaine has always loved nature and drawing, so it is not surprising that she combined these two loves and created her first three dimensional paintings in 1957. The 3D effect is made by using layers of sand, mosses, ferns, foliage and bark to imitate in miniature some of NZ’s favourite beauty spots.  Firstly, the materials needed to be collected, cleaned, pressed and stored ready for use, so it is a very time-consuming form of art. They are also painted in acrylics or oils, and then completely sealed and hardened for endurance.

More recently Elaine has made smaller, souvenir paintings of NZ bush and lake scenes using acrylic and palette knife to give a 3D effect.  The advantage is they are much quicker to produce, and can be sold at a fraction of the price.

The third style of painting is also using acrylic and palette knife to create impressionist seascapes with moving yachts and recognisable scenes behind.
