Overview of Elaine's artwork
Elaine has always loved nature and drawing, so it is not surprising that she combined these two loves together, forming her first three dimensional paintings in 1957. The 3D effect is made by using layers of sand, mosses, ferns, bark and foliage to imitate in miniature some of NZ’s favourite beauty spots. They are completely sealed and hardened for endurance, and also painted in acrylics or oils (or both) to bring in the light and shadows.
THERE IS A 7 MINUTE FILM SHOWING HOW THESE 3D PAINTINGS ARE MADE UNDER "FILM" ON THE MENU.
More recently Elaine has made smaller, souvenir type paintings of NZ lake and bush scenes using acrylic and the palette knife to give the 3D effect. The advantage is that they are much quicker to create, and therefore cheaper, and lighter for travel. These can be framed or left unframed, and range in size from 9"x12" to 14"x16". The stretched canvas fits well in a frame too.

Native NZ birds created from resin and hand painted, against a background of favourite NZ scenes, in a Rimu (native wood) frame.
Another style of painting is also using acrylic and palette knife to create impressionist seascapes with moving yachts and recognisable scenes behind.
Being an animal lover, Elaine has also painted dogs and other animals, and loves to do people’s own beloved pets for them. Prices are available on request. She will need a good photo - ideally more than one - which can be sent on email or as a print.
